Aka, -get a real argument, plz- by Colliequest Aka, -get a real argument, plz- by Colliequest
People will be people, but it just gets on my nerves when I'm clicking through my deviations inbox and I come across a stamp that says something like "if you don't agree with me, you're a jerk".
(To think they were stupid enough to actually disagree with you! My! Because people shouldn't think for themselves. They just need to listen to you as you think for yourself--amirite?)

First of all, I find this very rude and inconsiderate.

Second of all, this is a logical fallacy called "ad hominem". In other words, attacking the person instead of the argument. It does nothing to support your case, and makes you look just jerk-ish as the people you're dissing.

Third, even if actual, even sound, arguments are provided in the description, people are MUCH more likely to consider your view when you're not being super rude about it. If your goal is for them to come to agree with you, why not do it in a pleasant, or at least halfway pleasant, manner?

Insults never help a person's argument.

Yes, the notion that one must agree in order to have sense and/or compassion is rude and detrimental to societal progress, but at the same time it needs to be taken into account that some opinions are demonstrably harmful, and some leave no room for common ground. The issue of abortion comes to mind. You've got people saying it's a woman's right and others saying it's murder regardless of what situations it occurs under. Those beliefs cannot be reconciled, and oftentimes people are very polar about them.

I like how this is generally worded, because the line of thinking really can apply to any topic of discussion where there's a difference of opinion, particularly on polarizing topics.  My perspective is that people will always have differences of opinion.  You can present your case to others, but that's all you should do, and let others reach their own conclusions.

Ergo why at least some thought should be put into how said arguments are worded. It's never a good idea to wantonly raeg unless you want to attract trolls and drive away the people you are trying to reach. (Also a compelling argument for getting some sleep first before putting your fingers to the keyboard. :iconderpplz:)

I find those type people conceited and very much assholes. I ran into a DeviantArt user and I said something that she didn't like and she called me a moron for being wrong because whatever she says is always right. It was really uncalled for and I got in a heated fight with her, seriously, no one has to agree with one opinion everyone has different views of things. When I see people act like that it makes me sick and I get disgusted by that attitude.

Truth.

I hate how if you don't agree with someone, they throw a big baby fit because they want to pretty much "customize" you into what THEY want. They need to learn that's not how it works. People are all different and think differently and usually are not easily swayed. People's opinions are embedded into their heads like tree roots in the ground; they aren't going anywhere.

I've ran into so many like that who think their opinions are the only right choice and your opinions are "worthless" (yes, i had someone say that to me). No one can "agree to disagree" anymore and accept someone thinks differently. Sure, I get irked when someone doesn't have the same opinion as I do and I'll put my opinion in (in a mature way of course) but if neither of us will change then I'll let it go accepting it. But i lose respect if that other person can't accept mine and even sink low to try to downgrade me. Makes you want to slap some sense into them to know how to learn acceptance, or least to not insult someone.

The comment space is not here for you to vent about your opinions of other deviants.
If you would like to make a general statement that relates to the piece of work, fine. But it is completely unnecessary to make provocative statements about other deviants in the comment space.

I should really point out the irony of you, without any particular cause, attacking a person for attacking people.

But I'm not attacking anybody by the method described here, so that doesn't constitute irony at all. In fact, I do the exact opposite of what I'm complaining about; I never, ever end a conversation just because I don't like it. I press on and on. I've been in some arguments that have gone in circles for over a year now! Never give up! :D

Fair enough. But I do hope that you understand why it was unreasonable for you to make a comment about a specific deviant that was intended with malice.
If you have a problem with the person, care to take it up with them. Don't post comments on other people's artwork to slander their name.

I agree with you on this, but I've got to point this out. Some people are so uneducated or misinformed that thinking for themselves is a bad thing. Not saying that we should lock them up, but saying that not everyone is "equipped" to think for themselves on certain issues. If you keep feeding people the same crap for years, it will be hard for them to want to see that there are alternatives or that they fear the outcomes.

Jesus, if they don't want people to disagree why not just hide comments?

Also, if you make a controversial stamp you'd BETTER be prepared for people who were rubbed the wrong way. If you don't like that don't make stamps in the first place. xD

I completely agree with you. But unfortunately it wont stop. People will be stupid every day of the week. >.>
